A course designed for potters who want to break through their "technical ceiling". Learn to lift perfect cylinders, achieve thin walls, and close complex forms with precision.
Wheel throwing is a discipline that requires muscle memory and a deep understanding of clay physics. In this intensive, we will move away from production to focus exclusively on technique.
We will work with high-temperature stoneware. The course is structured to correct postural habits, improve centering efficiency, and manage to lift taller pieces with the same amount of clay.
Review of body posture. Techniques for centering 2kg+ of clay without excessive physical effort. Practice of the base cylinder.
Pulling techniques. How to maintain uniform thickness from base to rim. Using ribs to define the profile.
The challenge of closing the form. Bottles, vases, and spheres. Controlling collapse and managing drying.
The art of removing clay. Creating elegant feet and lightening pieces. Conclusions and cleanup.
This is not a beginner's course. Students must be able to center 500g of clay and throw a basic cylinder autonomously.
